New addition

We have been thinking about doing this for a long time and we finally have done it. We really wanted a pygmy goat, but we found an ad for Nigerian Dwarf goats. We went and looked at them on Friday night and brought 2 home with us. Nigerian Dwarfs are the same size as Pygmy goats, but are not as stout. They are miniature milk goats. We decided on 2 whethers, which are 2 little boys that are no longer intact...."fixed" Joan, the lady we got them from, said that whethers are just like does. They don't get all stinky and gross like a buck would. They had their hooves trimmed, vaccinated, dewormed, and stamped. The green dye in the ear is from the stamp. It is like a tattoo, the code tracks them back to the farm they were born in case some huge goat epidemic breaks out. The dye will eventually go away. They are really cute. We have them with our chickens. The chickens were a little surprised when I let them out this morning and 2 goat heads were looking in the house at them. We named them Ren and Stimpy. Ren is the one with the black stripes on his face and he is a little smaller. Stimpy is the one with the patches of color. I chose Stimpy first, he ran right up to me and nibbled on my ear. We haven't even had them 24hrs, but we love them. For now they have one of those dog igloo things to sleep in, but the chickens seem to like it better than the goats.

I wish I could look them in the eyes and say "You be goo-ood." They're perfect little goats...whethers. I had no idea a "gelded" goat was a whether. What do you call a stallion goat?...

You call them a buck, just like deer and rabbits. They are cute, but a little on the bratty side.

I absolutely love goats! I would have them running all around if they weren't naughty little things! They have such personality!! So...I may just show up on your doorstep someday and bring Grayson to the petting zoo. Seriously!
