SPRING!!

I think I mentioned before that I love spring. No...not just because my birthday is the 1st day of Spring (March 20th), but because of all the animals that are having babies, Easter, and the weather gets a little better.
Our chickens are in full gear with their egg production. We have 8 hens that are of laying age. We also have some granny hens that we have had for about 10 years that are enjoying retirement. Our 2 young hens, who are Leghorns, have just started laying. Actually I think only one of them is laying. So we get between 5-7 eggs a day now. Needless to say nobody on the ponderosa has to buy eggs. We have 2 big black hens, who lay brown eggs (I can't remember their breeds) 2 yellow hens that also lay brown, 2 Aracauna's that lay the green eggs, and now 2 leghorns that lay the white eggs. It is so fun to see green eggs. Growing up we only had chickens that would lay brown eggs.
We have an overpopulation of roosters right now. Our old neighbor (in the ghetto of Spanaway) gave us 10 babies. We lost 2 of them, and out of the remaining we gained 6 roosters, and 2 hens. The roosters crow 24 hours a day, I am NOT kidding. They all gang up on the hens too. CT, the Alpha Rooster, quickly steps in, recovers his hen from the bottom of the pile and rounds her up with the rest of his hens.
After today, the rooster thing will not be a problem, if you get my meanin'.
Have a great day!!!

I hope your surplus roosters have all been nicely put to rest by now. I know my parents' always hate "butchering" day. Nice to get it out of the way and move onto nicer, springy things. I really do love your new pictures.

Thank you Kara, you probably noticed I finally figured out the photo upload thing. Talk to you soon.

And...yes the rooster madness is now over.

Hmmm...I was going to offer some free roosters for ya! HA! Gary and Debbie have a surplus as well....but its been kind of a hard thing to "take care" of the stock...if ya know what I mean. A little bit of a softie (like me).

It's like, you never realize how many people have this "rooster problem" until you get talking about it. I'm a softie too, Jessica. I'd have to hire some axe-happy butcher like MJP to "handle the situation".

Bailey was the lucky girl to find the Easter Egg hidden in a "fresh pile". He tends to do that every year!
